An artist's favorite perch: rolling fields meet the Sakonnet River, with Middletown and Newport beyond. Artists are drawn to this scenic overlook on West Main Road in Little Compton, where they set up their easels to capture the beauty of "God's Country" on canvas. The view features rolling green pastures stretching down to the Sakonnet River, with Middletown and Newport visible on the opposite shore.  On many days, cows graze peacefully in the fields, adding to the pastoral charm while enjoying Little Compton's fresh, champagne-like air. Little Compton's fishermen keep Sakonnet Point humming all winter long 🐟

Little Compton in winter: quiet fairways, wandering geese, and the unmistakable charm of Sakonnet Golf Club's painted mailbox. The geese ruled the roost at Sakonnet Golf Club on this snowy afternoon in December, with nary a golfer on the course. A light dusting of snow softened the fairways and highlighted the quiet beauty of one of Little Compton's most picturesque landmarks.  Even in winter, the clubhouse's distinctive hand-painted mailbox adds a touch of character, standing as a familiar and welcoming symbol of the club. While the golf season lies dormant, the peaceful scene offers a reminder that Little Compton's charm endures long after the last round has been played. This post contains an affiliate link.
