Little Compton Village Improvement Society 1934 Summer Locater

The front cover of the 1934 Summer Locater booklet, a historical directory for Little Compton, Rhode Island.
This handy 30-page pamphlet included a town directory and other important information.

Living in Little Compton has never been for the faint of heart—particularly before modern luxuries like cable TV, the internet, and Amazon delivery.

The 1934 Summer Locater made life a bit easier for residents, providing phone numbers and a map detailing local homesteads and business locations. A list of town officials was included, as well as vital information on the town dentist and doctor.

Church services were listed alongside the hours for Little Compton’s two libraries. Many local businesses advertised their goods and services in the directory, with some ads taking up an entire page.

Numerous surnames in the Summer Locater are incredibly familiar, as their descendants still live in town today. There are even a few businesses listed that are still going concerns. All in all, it appears that 1934 was a great year in LC!
